Ecom helps the unemployed gain work

After being made redundant, Jill Jamieson found light at the end of the tunnel by successfully achieving her ECDL qualification.

Jill Jamieson was working for the Post Office Counter Ltd in Caerphilly when the recession hit Wales. Controversially, the main Post Office at the heart of the town closed in October 2007 after over 50 years of trading, making many workers redundant. Jill Jamieson was one of the unfortunate people.

Amongst the doom and gloom, Jill was unaware of the doors which had now opened for her. During a visit from a job centre representative, Jill was informed that she was eligible for the Welsh Assembly’s ReAct scheme. Responding positively to the news, Jill contacted learndirect centre Ecom Learning Solutions in Cardiff.

Jill said: “When I phoned Ecom they suited my needs. It was easy to get to, had free car parking facilities and the person I spoke to was very efficient.”

Jill is just one of the many who have been successful in accessing the ReAct fund. Jill was awarded £1650.00 to cover the cost of her training.

A few months later, Jill had completed a range of Finance Courses and Microsoft Training with Ecom Learning Solutions. Jill was then confident enough to gain her ECDL qualification.

Jill would recommend Ecom to others, she said: “I found the centre very friendly and relaxed; I enjoyed my time at Ecom. The courses and support were informative and delivered in a non-threatening way.”

Jill is now back in employment and is grateful for the courses available to her: “the courses helped, especially with my computer skills” says Jill.
